Vadim Rubin joined the Retrievers’ volleyball staff as anassistant coach in August 2012.
Rubin comes to the staff after coaching at the high school andclub level for the past six years. In addition, he hasserved as the captain for UMBC’s club men’s volleyballteam since 2008.
Last season Rubin helped guide the Retrievers to an 8-4 mark inAmerica East play, the team’s best since joining the leaguein 2003. In addition, UMBC earned a trip to itsfifth-straight conference championship tournament.
While completing his degree at UMBC, Rubin coached in the localvolleyball club community, most notably for the Maryland JuniorsVolleyball Club, where he served as the head coach for the 15U and16U squads each of the past two seasons. Also at thattime, the Sandy Spring, Md., native guided Reservoir HighSchool’s junior varsity team to the Huntingtown Invitationalchampionship and the number one ranking in the country among JVsquads.
After leading Sherwood High School to back-to-back men’svolleyball Divisional Championships in 2005 and 2006, Rubinmatriculated at UMBC and received a Bachelor’s degree inhistory in 2012. He is currently enrolled back at UMBCto complete a second degree, this one in Asian Studies.
