Biography

2015-16: Romano was a two time finalist at the America East Championships this past February, earning medals in the 1,650 free and 500 free... She finished the 1,650 free in a time of 17:15.02, good for fifth place in the event... She also earned an eighth place finish in the 500 free, touching in with a time of 5:02.79... Romano also competed in the 200 free at the championships, where she finished in a time of 1:54.44.

2014-15: Competed in distance freestyle events for the Retrievers as a junior... Set season best times at the 2015 America East Championships... Took home fourth place at the championships with a time of 4:58.82 in the 500 free, her best time of her career at UMBC... Placed sixth in the 200 free in Worcester with a time of 1:52.60, another career best... Earned a fourth place finish in the 1,650 free, turning in a time of 17:19.30.

2013-14: Joined the Retrievers in January after transferring from Towson… Finished with season-best times in the 200-yd. free (1:53.71), placing tenth, 500-yd. free (5:00.60), finishing third, and 1,650-yd. free (17:10.28), placing second, at the America East Championships… Her 1,650 time ranks seventh in the UMBC record book while her 1,000 free time of 10:24.46 is the ninth-fastest in program history… Also helped the 800 free relay garner a bronze medal at the conference championships in Worcester, Mass. … Captured her first two dual meet wins at UMBC by winning the 500 and 1,000 free events against Howard on Jan. 11 at the UMBC Aquatic Complex… Took the top spot in the 500 free two weeks later as the Retrievers competed against East Carolina and Catawba in North Carolina… Named to the America East Honor Roll.

Background: Transferred from Towson University… Named the Yorktown High MVP in 2012 after winning the 200 free at regionals… Helped lead the Patriots to a second-place finish at the regional meet during her junior season… Named an honorable mention on the Washington Post All-Metro Team two consecutive seasons.

Personal: Daughter of Steven and Deborah Romano… Has one younger sister, Elizabeth… Plans to become and elementary school teacher… Born March 21, 1994.
