Biography

2011-12: Swam a season-best time of 5:11.78 in the 500-yd. freestyle while exhibition at the America East Championships... Finished in 14th with a top season time of 4:45.96 in the 400 IM at the Patriot Invitational at George Mason... Won the 1,000 free in a dual meet with Howard... Named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2010-11: Placed sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 14th in the 500-yard freestyle at the Patriot Invitational... Swam season-best times in the 200 free (1:56.31), 500 free (5:06.32) and 1,650 free (17:01.20) at the Terrapin Invite, with the 1650 free placing sixth on the school's all-time list... Time in the 1,000 free (10:20.56) ranks sixth on UMBC's all-time list... Named to the America East Honor Roll.

2009-10: Finished ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the America East Championships… Highest finish during the dual meet season was second in both the 500 and 1,000 free events against Drexel and Howard… Swam season-best times in the 200 free (2:00.05), 500 free (5:04.68) and 1,650 free (17:12.99) at the Terrapin Cup Last Chance Meet… Her 1,650 free time ranks sixth on UMBC’s all-time top-10 list.

Background: A state champion in the 200 free in 2006 and in the 500 free in 2009… Named the League MVP in 2009... Holds seven school records… A Metro West All-Star in 2006, 2007 and 2009.

Personal: Daughter of Jerry and Mary Powlen… Has one sister, Mallory… Majoring in environmental science… Born March 7, 1991.
