Biography

2009-10 Indoor: Finished sixth in the heptathlon with a season-best score of 4,599 points at the America East Championships, winning the pole vault portion in a UMBC season-high mark of 4.75m.… Also placed eighth in the pole vault (4.50m) at the conference meet.

 

Background: 2008 outdoor NJCAA champion in the pole vault… 2008 NJCAA All-American in the decathlon… His team at Central Arizona placed second at the NJCAA Nationals… Was the 2006 Arizona 5A D1 state champion in the pole vault… Was named most valuable field athlete as a senior in high school.

 

Personal: Youngest child to Martin and Anna Nevarez…. Has two siblings, Miguel Duran and Jesus Rodriguez… Played in the marching band in high school… Is a trumpet player in the UMBC pep and jazz bands… Chose UMBC over Arizona State, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University… Is a first generation Mexican-American…Born Aug. 21, 1987.
