Biography

2014-15: Earned a bronze medal in the 500 freestyle at the CCSA Championships in Georgia, finishing in a time of 4:27.64, a season best... Also earned bronze in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 1:37.92, shaving just about seven seconds off his previous season best time... Posted a time of 15:32.50 in the 1,650 freestyle, earning him second place in the event as the Retrievers went on to win their first CCSA Championship... Named to the CCSA All-Academic Team.

2013-14: Helped the UMBC 800-yd. freestyle relay team claim a gold medal and break the school record with a time of 6:30.37 at the team’s first-ever CCSA Championships at the University of Tennessee… Garnered a silver medal in the 1,650-yd. freestyle and also won a bronze medal in the 500-yd. free at the CCSA Championships, both in career-best times … His 1,650 swim (15:37.29) in Knoxville ranks as the third-fastest in school history while his mark of 4:27.28 in the 500 ranks fourth… Also competed in the 200 free at the CCSA meet, posting a career-best time of 1:38.63 to place third in the prelims and jump to seventh in the school record book… Placed seventh in the nighttime finals for the 200 race…  Won two dual meet races during the season, capturing the top spot in the 500 free against Rider on Oct. 12 and then again on Oct. 26 as UMBC defeated George Washington at the UMBC Aquatic Complex.

2012-13: Won his first conference gold medal in taking the 1,650-yd. title at the America East Championships as the Retrievers reclaimed the conference crown… Also earned a silver in the 500 free and bronze medal in the 200 free… His time of 15:43.37 in the 1,650 finals ranks sixth all-time at UMBC… Recorded his top time in the 200 (1:41.06) and 1,650 (15:43.37) during the finals at the conference meet with his top 500 time (4:31.05) coming in the race prelims… Helped lead the Retrievers to their second-ever undefeated dual meet season… Won his first two career dual meet events during the season, capturing the 1,000 free against Rider and then claiming the 50 free against Howard.

2011-12: Finished seventh in the 500-yd. free, eighth in the 1,650-yd free and 14th in the 400-yd. IM at the America East Championships... 500 prelim time of 4:32.67 ranks tenth all-time in UMBC history... Placed second in the 1,650 free at the Patriot Invitational... Best dual meet finish was second place in the 1,000-yd. free against George Washington... Named to the America East Honor Roll.

Background: Named an All-American by the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald and the Salem News… A Junior Nationals qualifier… Placed ninth at the YMCA Long Course Nationals… An honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society… An accomplished saxophonist.

Personal: Son of Michael and Seaneen Breen… Has a younger sister, Alexis… A chemistry major who hopes to pursue a career in medicine… Born  Feb. 2, 1993.
