Dan Louisignau joined the Retriever staff in August of 2012 andjust completed his third year next to his former mentors on thesidelines in the fall of 2014.
With a winning percentage of .731 and an overall record of41-11-15, the three-year period has been the most successful spanin UMBC men’s soccer history. Louisignau has been a part of acoaching staff that has won the America East regular season titlethe last two years and the league tournament for three straightyears, advancing to the College Cup in 2014 for the first time inschool history. The coaching staff earned America East CoachingStaff of the Year honors, and its leader, head coach Pete Caringi,earned NSCAA and Soccer America national coach-of-the-yearhonors.
Working extensively with the goalkeepers, Louisignau has helpeddevelop two stellar goalies. During NCAA tournament run in 2014,UMBC earned four shutouts in five games, the first time in NCAAhistory an unseeded team posted four shutouts in as many games onthe road. UMBC goalie Billy Heavner led the America East Conferencein goals-against-average (.830) and shutouts (10). In 2013, goaliePhil Saunders signed a professional contract with BÍBolungarvík of the Icelandic First Division. Saunders wasvoted MVP in the America East Conference Tournament in the 2012season.
Louisignau was the 2012 America East Conference Goalkeeper ofthe Year and also earned First Team All-Conference honors for theRetrievers.
The Wilmington, Del. native led America East through the regularseason in saves and finished 28th nationally in saves per game(4.94). He was also first in save percentage (.792) and shutouts(7).
The University of Virginia transfer was a Second TeamAll-Conference performer in 2010. His 84.5 save percentage wastenth-best in the nation in his first season withUMBC. He finished the campaign with a record of 9-1-4,leading to Retrievers to an America East title and a first roundNCAA Tournament victory at Princeton.
Louisignau played in six NCAA Tournament games during hiscollegiate tenure. At the club level, the netminder won fourregional titles and three national titles.
He earned his degree in sociology from UMBC in the spring of2012.
