Rocco Vicchio

    Volunteer Assistant Coach

Veteran coach Rocco Vicchio began his third tour of duty with UMBC in the 2012 season.  He had previously worked with Coach Zimmerman from 1994-2002 and from 2005-2007 season. 
He will serve as a volunteer assistant coach and reprise his role in working on the defensive side of the field and with the goalkeepers.


Coach Vicchio spent eighteen seasons as head coach at Mt. St. Joseph (Md.) HS. He was named M.S.A. “Coach of the Year” in both 1985 and 1986. In 1982, he was named M.S.A.-Metro All-Star game coach. Under his guidance, Mt. St. Joe won an M.S.A. “B” Conference title, made six other playoff appearances, and earned another trip to the “A” Conference playoffs in one of the toughest high school conferences in the nation. 

Vicchio graduated from UMBC in 1981, with a B.A. in ancient studies. His son, Josh, a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse at UMBC, graduated in 1999 with a degree in History and his daughter, Chandler, earned four letters in lacrosse and earned her degree from Georgetown University in 2002. 

Rocco and his wife Kim reside in Catonsville.
