Biography

2013-14: Qualified for the NCAA Championshipsfor the second consecutive year, becoming the first UMBC swimmer toadvance to multiple national meets…  Competed in the100- (47.65) and 200-yd. backstroke (1:43.06) events, as well asthe 200-yd. IM at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas…Broke the school record, and the CCSA open records, in bothbackstroke events in Texas… The lone CCSA swimmer at theNCAA Championships… Also rewrote the UMBC records for the100 free (43.81), 100 butterfly (47.79), and 200 IM (1:44.14)during the year… Helped the 400 (2:56.57) and 800 freerelays (6:30.37), and 200 (1:28.99) and 400 medley relays (3:14.41)break the school records at the 2014 CCSA Championships atTennessee…  Both free relay teams won goldmedals… Also won gold medals in the 200 IM and 100 back atthe conference meet as UMBC finished in second place behind theUniversity of the Incarnate Word… The Retrievers laterearned the No. 23 ranking in the nation byCollegeSwimming.com after the championship meet…Was named the Co-Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Meetfollowing the conclusion of the weekend… Later selected asthe CCSA Male Swimmer of the Year… Paced the team with 12individual wins during the dual meet season while also aiding nineRetriever relay teams to victory… Helped the 200 medley(1:32.44) and 200 free relays (1:23.70) break the UMBC AquaticComplex pool records as the Retrievers hosted Howard on Jan.11… Named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week three times.

2012-13: Selected as the AmericaEast and ECAC Championships Most Outstanding Male Swimmer…Became just the third Retriever, and first male, to ever qualifyfor the NCAA Championships… Set career-best and set schoolrecords in each of his three events at the national meet…Finished 17th in the national field in the 200-yd. IM with a timeof 1:44.44… Placed 37th in both the 200 back (1:44.90) and200 free (1:36.55) at the NCAA meet… Named the NationalSwimmer of the Week on Feb. 19byCollegeSwimming.com after leading theRetriever to the America East title at Maine… The firstRetriever to ever earn a national accolade… Won threeindividual events and helped UMBC claim three relay gold medals atthe conference meet… Broke three conference records at thechampionships… Set a new UMBC record in the 50 free (20.33)while completing a time trial at the ECAC championships…Earned the UMBC Aquatic Complex record in the 200 IM (1:51.92)while competing against Howard on Nov. 10… Part of the 400free relay team (2:58.47) which broke the school record at the ECACmeet at Harvard… Won a team-best 19 dual meet events as theRetrievers recorded their second-ever undefeated dual meetseason… Named to the America East Honor Roll.

2011-12: CollegeSwimming.com Mid-MajorAll-American Honorable Mention... Named the America East MostOutstanding Male Swimmer at the conference championship meet inBoston... Won three individual gold medals for the Retrievers atthe championships, each in record time... Broke the conference,pool and UMBC record in the 200-yd. IM with a time of 1:47.64...Set a new UMBC record in the 200-yd. back with a time of 1:46.70...Initially broke the conference pool record in the 100 back (48.92)and then set the mark even lower and broke the schoolmark with his 48.66 split as a part of the silver medalwinning 400 medley relay... Also helped the 200 medley relayteam claim gold at the conference meet... Won eight individualevents in just three dual meets after transferring mid-year... Alsohelped the 200 medley team claim first against local rivals Loyolaand Towson.

Background:  Owns the Egyptian nationalrecord in the 200m IM... Nearly qualified for the 2012 SummerOlympics in the 200m IM and 100m free for Egypt... Helped theEgyptian National Team win gold in the 400 medley relay at the 2011Pan-Arab Games... Nearly qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics inthe 100 free and 200 IM.

Personal: Son of Khaled Hussein and MonaMokhtar... Has one older brother, Hossam Khaled, and one oldersister, Riham Khaled... Majoring in mechanical engineering.
