Softball Completes Four-Game Sweep of Holy Cross on Sunday

BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Softball team completed a four-game weekend sweep of visiting Holy Cross with a pair of victories on Sunday at The Diamond.

The Retrievers (10-8) took game one, 7-2, before shutting out the Crusaders, 5-0, in the finale.

UMBC 7, Holy Cross 2

Emily Riggs and Taylor Nicholson hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first to put the Dawgs up 2-0. The guests homered in the top of the second to trim the deficit in half, but Sophie Anderson blasted her first career homer in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1.

Abbie Frisvold's sacrifice fly in the third was answered by a Holy Cross run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2, but Riggs hit a solo homer in the fifth to push the lead back to three. Ella Squaires drove in a run on a sixth inning groundout and Riggs added an RBI single to account for the final score.
