Lewisburg, Pa. – Sophomore attackman
Emily Knapp tied a career high with five goals and added an assist, but the UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-10 decision against the Bucknell Bison on Friday afternoon.
Junior
Emma O'Callaghan scored off an assist from sophomore
Annika Wray at 13:26 of the opening quarter to knot the game at 1-1. It was the final time the game would be deadlocked, as the hosts scored twice to make it 3-1 with 12:30 remaining in the frame.
Knapp, who has already produced 55 goals in just 18 career contests, recorded her first tally of the afternoon to bring the visitors within 3-2 with 11:42 left as senior
Lizzie Bateman was credited with an assist. However, Bucknell rattled off four straight goals to extend the lead to 7-2 with 2:02 left.
Sophomore
Tess Curtis (two assists) found the back of the net off a setup from Knapp to cut the deficit to 7-3, but Megan Krestinski answered with thirty-six ticks left to spot the Bison an 8-3 edge after the opening quarter.
Bucknell scored the first four goals of the second quarter to widen their lead to 12-3 with 2:03 left before intermission. Sophoomore
Reese Macintosh was able to put in a free position goal just before the break to bring the Dawgs within 12-4.
The Bison put the game away in the third quarter as they outscored UMBC by a 6-2 margin to grab an 18-6 advantage. Knapp scored both Retriever goals in the period.
UMBC (1-1) dominated the fourth quarter as they blanked the Bison by a 4-0 count. Knapp added two more goals to her ledger, and Bateman and sophomore
Mya Stewart-Parsons also found the back of the net.
Krestinski scored seven goals and added three assists to lead the Bison, who improved to 2-0. Caroline Sheridan added four goals, and Caleigh Cummiskey chipped in with a hat trick.
Freshman
Madyson Hamilton came off the bench in the opening quarter and made three saves in 38:24 of action. Bella Crowley made nine saves in three quarters for the Bison.
Senior
Ella Killian played a strong defensive game as the tri-captain recorded four caused turnovers and added three ground balls and three draw controls.
UMBC held a 30-29 edge in total shots and won 17-of-30 draws.
