- UMBC senior midfielder Katana Nelson's goal with 2:27 remaining gave UMBC a remarkable 12-11 come-from-behind road victory against the Binghamton Bearcats last Saturday afternoon.
- UMBC trailed 9-2 with 10:36 left in the second quarter but ripped off nine unanswered goals to grab the lead midway through the third quarter.
- Nelson, who leads the conference with 45 goals this season, tied her career-high with six goals and added an assist and a pair of ground balls. Four of her goals came on free position opportunities.
- Senior attackman Grace Bruce added a hat-trick and recorded four draw controls. Her free position tally with 6:40 left in the third quarter gave the visitors a 10-9 advantage.
- Reserve goalie Mikaela Staranko came up big as she recorded her first win as a Retriever and came off the bench to make eight saves in 44:20.
- UMBC is enjoying their first 10-win season since 2017.
- The Retrievers lead the America East in all four major offensive categories with 22.3 points, 15.7 goals (8th in NCAA), 6.5 assists (tied) and 35.5 shots per game. UMBC posts a league-best 26.0 shots on goal and 2.6 woman-up goals per game. The Retrievers' defense also allows just 9.0 goals per game (11th in NCAA) to take the top spot in the conference.
- Nelson leads the league in goals per game (4.09, 8th in NCAA) and is 2nd in points per game (4.27). She also ranks 10th with 1.09 caused turnovers per game and is second in the NCAA with 7.00 shots on goal per game.
- Knapp tops the conference in points per game (4.36, 34th in NCAA) and is 5th in goals per game (3.09).
- Bruce is now 3rd in the league with 3.36 goals per game. She needs just four points to reach 100 for her career.
- Lizzie Bateman is 2nd the conference with 2.00 assists per game.
- Libby Staples is fourth in the AE with 2.22 ground balls per game.
- Warfield is second in draw controls per game (5.27)
- Fontana's 9.83 goals against average paces the America East and she ranks 15th in the country.
- The Retrievers are 3rd in the country with a .909 winning percentage.
- UMBC will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 2000 NEC Championship team at halftime.
ABOUT THE RIVER HAWKS
- Senior Jade Catlin and sophomore Jillian Goldie each scored five goals, as UML took down the UAlbany Great Danes (3-8, 1-1 AE), 13-9, on Saturday night. With the win, the River Hawks are off to their best start in program history and their best start in conference play.
- Catlin, who added an assist for a six-point day, added two ground balls and ten draw controls to her stat line. Goldie also added an assist to help lead the offense, as well as two ground balls. Behind them, junior Audra Hansen chipped in with two goals and an assist, while junior Macy Shultz tallied a goal of her own. Rounding out the scoring, sophomore Bronwyn Hilbert finished with an assist. In net, sophomore Alexa Kuhn made ten saves while allowing only nine goals, good for a .526 save percentage. She was named the AE Goalie of the Week this past Monday.
- Catlin paces the offense through ten games, scoring 36 goals alongside six assists for 42 points.
- Behind her, sophomore Chloe Bowers' 28 goals are the second most on the team, while Hansen has 35 points (23 goals, 12 assists). Lydon sits fourth with 28 points, while Ruscitti has a team-best 13 assists. Sophomore Allie Reading and Caitlin lead the squad with 12 caused turnovers.
- Kuhn has made 98 saves, good for a .495 save percentage, ranking 19th in the country through 11 games.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- UMBC has won all nine meetings against UML, including a 5-0 mark in Baltimore.
- The Retrievers held on for a 14-12 triumph last season after leading 10-4 at intermission. Kolby Weedon (4 goals, Grace Bruce (4 goals), Katana Nelson (three goals) led UMBC's offense.
