Women's Lacrosse Set to Host Vermont on Senior Day

DAWG BITES   

  • Freshman attackman Emily Knapp scored four goals, but the UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-8 America East Conference decision against the UAlbany Great Danes on Saturday afternoon at John Fallon Field. The Retrievers clinched a conference tournament berth despite the defeat.
  • Knapp increased her team-leading total to 62 points (44 goals, 18 assists), while junior linemate Lauryn Warfield produced her second-straight hat trick with three goals. Junior attacker Libby Staples assisted on a game-high three goals, while junior defender Ella Killian (four ground balls, five draw controls) and freshman midfielder Tess Curtis (2 caused turnovers, assist) turned in impressive performances. Graduate student goalie Isabella Fontana made nine saves.
  • UMBC has been enjoying its first 10-win season since 2017.    
  • The Retrievers lead the America East in three major offensive categories: 22.21 points (16 in NCAA), 15.36 goals, and 34.71 shots per game (9 in NCAA). Their defense also allows just 9.79 goals per game (19th in NCAA), good for first in the conference.   
  • Nelson is second in the league in goals per game (3.57, 31 in NCAA) and is fifth in points per game (3.71). She also averages 0.92 caused turnovers per game and is 10th in the NCAA with 6.21 shots on goal per game.   
  • Knapp is second in the conference in points per game (4.43, 41 in NCAA) and fourth in goals per game (3.14).   
  • Bruce is now 5th in the league with 3.07 goals per game. 
  • Lizzie Bateman is first in the conference with 1.93 assists per game.  
  • Libby Staples is 5th in the AE with 2.17 ground balls per game.   
  • Warfield is 3rd in draw controls per game (4.93)   
  • Fontana's 10.40 goals against average is the best in the AE. 
  • The Retrievers are tied for 8th in the country with a .786 winning percentage.   
ABOUT THE CATAMOUNTS
  • Sophomore Lydia Doraz leads in goals (40) and points (52).
  • Anna Rosenberger leads the team in ground balls (32).
  • Ava Wilde leads the Catamounts in assists (10) and averages 1.43 a game. 
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Rosenberger registered 86 saves and a save percentage of .361. 
INSIDE THE SERIES: 
  • The Retrievers are 12-8 all-time versus the Catamounts.
  • The Retrievers have won five of the last seven matches.
  • Last year's contest ended in an 11-7 win for the Retrievers. Isabella Fontana made 12 saves, including six pivotal stops in the second quarter, to pick up the victory.
