Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Undefeated Furman on Sunday Afternoon

RETRIEVER BITES
  • Senior midfielder Katana Nelson scored four goals, but the UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped their first game of the season, 16-8, against the Delaware Blue Hens on Wednesday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.
  • Senior attacker Grace Bruce recorded a hat trick and Isabella Fontana made a game-high eight saves for the Retrievers. Freshman Reese Macintosh dished a pair of assists and ground balls while Lauryn Warfield recorded five draw controls.
  •  Nelson has moved into 2nd in the America East in goals with 3.71 per game. Freshman Emily Knapp (3.57) and Bruce (3.00) are also in the Top-10. Nelson has scored 90 career goals.
  • Knapp still leads the league with 5.14 points per game despite being blanked against Delaware on Wednesday.
  • Lizzie Bateman leads the circuit with 1.86 assists per game.
  • Lauryn Warfield paces the conference with 5.57 draw controls per game.
  • Isabella Fontana is averaging a league-low 8.73 goals per game. She needs just 10 saves to move into 6th on UMBC's all-time list in the category.
  • Avery Corino has 46 career caused turnovers and is two shy of moving into 9th on UMBC's all-time ledger. 
ABOUT THE PALADINS
  •  Anna Roser was one of four Paladins to have three or more goals Wednesday evening to lead Furman to an 18-12 victory over the Detroit Mercy Titans in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Paladin Stadium.
  • Furman improved to 5-0 and has tied the program's best start in program history, joining the 2015 squad that also began the year with five straight victories.
  •  Roser, the reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Week, led all players with a game high seven points on her six goals and one assist. Paige Harman added six points on four goals and two assists while Lily Toole contributed five points on three goals and two assists. Sofija Buzelis, who also set a new career high with 10 draws, had four points on three goals and an assist. Three different players picked up two ground balls and Andrea Fisher caused a team best two turnovers.
  •  Roser has a team-high 23 goals this season, including three game-winners.
  • Harman leads the squad with 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists)
  • Former Retriever Madigan Brewer is 4-0 with an 8.09 goals against average.
