Women's Lacrosse Travels to New Hampshire on Friday Afternoon

DAWG BITES
  • UMBC reversed a 6-1 first-half deficit and defeated the Bryant Bulldogs, 17-9, in the America East opener for both squads last Friday evening at UMBC Stadium. 
  • Junior attacker Grace Bruce scored a game-high five goals, including the go-ahead tally with 10:44 remaining in the third quarter.  
  • Senior midfielder Katana Nelson scored four goals, including the 100th of her career on a free position shot in the fourth quarter. Nelson also added a game-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers. 
  • Libby Staples produced a career-high four goals and handed out a pair of assists. Freshman attacker Emily Knapp hit the back of the net twice while Lizzie Bateman dished a game-high three assists.
  • Goalie Isabella Fontana picked up her eighth win after making seven saves in just over 54 minutes of action. She moved into the Retrievers' 6th all-time spot in saves.
  • UMBC won 17-of-29 draws and held a 21-12 advantage in ground balls. Bryant also committed 25 fouls compared to just seven by the hosts.
  • Nelson was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week this past Monday while Fontana earned Goalie of the Week accolades.
  • Nelson leads the league in goals per game (4.00, 9th in NCAA) and is third in points per game (4.11). She also ranks 9th with 1.22 caused turnovers per game and is second in the NCAA with 7.00 shots on goal per game.
  • Knapp tops the conference in points per game (4.56, 25th in NCAA)) and is third in goals per game (3.22).
  • Bruce is now 5th in the league with 3.11 goals per game.
  • Staples is fourth in the AE with 2.25 ground balls per game.
  • Warfield is second in draw controls per game (5.11)
  • Fontana's 9.14 goals against average paces the America East and she ranks 15th in the country.
  • The Retrievers are 5th in the country with a .889 winning percentage.
  • Senior defender Avery Corino needs two caused turnovers to become the ninth player to record 50 CT's at UMBC
  • Junior midfielder Lauryn Warfield needs one draw controls to move into sixth all-time at UMBC. She leads the AE with 5.25 per game.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas recorded 12 saves but New Hampshire was toppled 15-8 by UMass Lowell in Sunday afternoon's America East conference opener at Cushing Field. It was the Wildcats third straight defeat.
  •  Thomas, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, was credited with four saves in the first quarter and five in the third quarter, as well as two in the second and one in the fourth.
  •  Classmate Libby Boland led UNH's offense with three points on two goals and an assist. Junior Rose Pavuk (two goals) and sophomore Dale Meskill (goal, assist) both tallied two points.
  •  Senior captain Allie Connerty junior Kate O'Rourke and freshman Makayla Keys were the other Wildcats who scored a goal. It was Connerty's 50th career goal.
  • Connerty is 14th in the America East with 2.75 points per game and is 12th in assists per game (1.00).
  • Pavuk is sixth on the circuit with 1.25 assists per game.
  • Erin Fagan is third in the AE with 5.00 draw controls per game.
  • Thomas is second in the conference with a .450 saves percentage and leads the league with 11.38 saves per game.
SERIES HISTORY
  • UMBC has won three straight against the Wildcats and are 6-4 over their last ten contests.
  • UNH holds a 15-7 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Last season, Bruce scored six goals and Nelson added a hat trick in UMBC'S 13-8 win at UMBC Stadium.
