Women's Lacrosse Opens America East Play at Home Versus Bryant on Friday Evening

  • UMBC is averaging a league-high 15.50 goals per game.
  • Senior midfielder Katana Nelson needs just four goals to reach the century mark. She is currently 11th in NCAA with 4.00 goals per game this season. She is second in the America East. Nelson became the sixth AE player to scored six goals (Furman) in a single game this season. Nelson was named the America East Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.
  • Freshman attacker Emily Knapp is ninth in in NCAA with 39 points. Knapp is fourth in the league with 3.38 goals per game and is first in points per game (4.88). Knapp's nine points versus Howard is still a league-high this season.
  • Senior defender Avery Corino needs three caused turnovers to become the ninth player to record 50 CT's at UMBC
  • Junior midfielder Lauryn Warfield needs five draw controls to move into sixth all-time at UMBC. She leads the AE with 5.25 per game.
  • Graduate student goalie Isabella Fontana needs seven saves to move into 6th all-time at UMBC. She leads the conference with a 9.04 goals against average.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Nelson scored a career-high six goals, including a pair of tallies that iced the game as the UMBC women's lacrosse team edged previously undefeated Furman, 13-11, Sunday afternoon at windy UMBC Stadium. 
  • Nelson added a team-high three caused turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls.
  • Senior attacker Grace Bruce and Knapp scored a pair of goals, while junior Lizzie Bateman dished two assists.
  • Fontana picked up four ground balls and made three saves, including a huge stop to turn the momentum in the fourth quarter.
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
  • The Bulldogs are coming off a 16-13 victory over Quinnipiac.
  • Defender Jessica Tosone was named Defensive Player of the Week by the America East Conference on Monday after leading the team in ground balls and caused turnovers. She leads the circuit with 4.38 ground balls per game and is second in caused turnovers at 2.50 per game.
  • Gabriella Constant led Bryant against Quinnipiac with six goals.
  • Emily DeGeorge is fifth in the AE with 3.00 goals per while Constant is adding 1.88 goals per game.
  • Kaelyn O'Brien leads the conference in ground balls (2.50) and caused turnovers (3.38)
  • Goalie Sam Centofante is third in the league in goals against average (10.73).

  • Bryant holds a 2-0 overall record over UMBC.
  • The Retrievers dropped a 15-10 decision against the Bulldogs last season in Snithfield, Rhode Island. Bryant outscored the Retrievers by a 6-1 margin in the fourth quarter. Grace Bruce and Katana Nelson combined for seven goals for the Dawgs.
