Red-Hot Women's Lacrosse Look to Remain Perfect at William & Mary on Wednesday Afternoon

  • UMBC is off to a dominant 4-0 start as they have outscored their three opponents by a combined margin of 75-22.
  • The Retrievers are 4-0 for the first time since 1999 and have never opened a season with five straight wins.
  • SR midfielder Katana Nelson was named the AE Offensive Player of the Week while FR attacker Emily Knapp earned her second straight Rookie of the Week accolade.
  • Nelson combined for ten goals in UMBC's two victories against LaSalle and American last week. The Hummelstown, Pa. native scored five goals and added two ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers against the Explorers. The Hershey product followed that up with five goals and a ground ball against the Eagles. Nelson is second on the circuit with 4.25 goals per game as she has tickled the twine 17 times in 2025. She now has 81 career goals in 40 games played. It's her first career honor.
  • Knapp added seven more markers last week and leads the conference with 4.50 goals per game (18 goals) as well as 6.00 points per game. She recorded four goals and an assist versus LaSalle and followed that up with three goals and a helper against American. Knapp has enjoyed a .621 shooting percentage through UMBC's first four contests.
  • Lizzie Bateman leads the league with 2.75 assists per game.
  • Libby Staples has picked up a team-high 14 ground balls. She leads the league with 3.50 ground balls per game.
  • Lauryn Warfield has won 25 draws and leads the circuit with 6.25 DC's per game.
  • Isabella Fontana leads the league with 5.96 saves goals against average.
About the Tribe
  • W&M currently owns a 1-2 record this season after opening the 2025 campaign with a victory at Coastal Carolina before suffering setbacks to George Washington and Georgetown.
  • Kate Draddy (7g, 1a) and Paige Gilbert (5g, 3a) lead the Tribe offensively, while Draddy has also totaled a team-high 19 draw controls and ranks second in the CAA with 6.33 draw controls per game. Draddy also leads the CAA and ranks fourth nationally in shooting percentage (.778).
  • Defensively, goalie Marin Wilhelm ranks third in the conference in saves per game (10.33) and is tied for first in ground balls per game (3.0).
