BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Women's Lacrosse team used a 10-0 run to break open a 2-2 game and runaway from visiting La Salle, 18-3, on Wednesday evening at frigid UMBC Stadium.
Katana Nelson led all players with five goals, while
Emily Knapp had four goals and an assist and
Tess Curtis had a hat-trick for the Retrievers (3-0).
Isabella Fontana needed to make only four saves to pick up her third victory of the season.
Grace Bruce had two goals, an assist, four draw controls and a game-best four ground balls, while
Ella Killian led all players with eight draw controls.
Nelson had three caused turnovers, as did
Libby Staples who also added three assists.Â
Reese Macintosh (two goals),
Abby Cudzilo (one goal) and
Lizzie Bateman (one goal and one assist) also scored for the Retrievers.
UMBC held a 39-14 shot advantage, including 30-8 advantage in shots on goal, the Dawgs also forced 21 turnovers and caused the Explorers to have eight failed clears.
Mikaela Staranko entered the cage for the final eight minutes and made a great point blank save.
The Retrievers welcomes American on Saturday at 3 p.m.

- UMBC is off to a dominant 3-0 start as they have outscored their three opponents by a combined margin of 62-12.
