Box Score BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's lacrosse team throttled the visiting Howard Bison, 24-4, in the Retrievers' home opener on Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.
Freshman attacker
Emily Knapp scored a game-high six goals and already has 11 tallies in her first two career contests. Senior midfielder
Katana Nelson found the back of the net five times, equaling her career high. Senior

Emma O'Callaghan added hat tricks. It was the first career goals for O'Callaghan.
UMBC (2-0) jumped out to a 7-1 advantage after the opening quarter and never looked back.
Howard (0-3) scored the final goal of the second quarter with twenty-nine seconds left, but the Retrievers put the game away by outscoring the Bison by a 6-1 margin in the second quarter.
The Retrievers led 13-2 at the break and continued to pour it on over the final thirty minutes.
UMBC held a whopping 45-8 advantage in shots and forced 19 turnovers.
Knapp also added three assists and picked up four ground balls.
Lizzie Bateman also distributed three assists.
Libby Staples led the squad with five ground balls and senior
Ria Lagdameo led the defense with a career-high four caused turnovers.
Graduate student
Isabella Fontana made two saves to pick up the victory in goal.
