HOW IT HAPPENED
- American's Kellie Linehan opened the scoring with a goal just under three minutes into the contest.
- UMBC, however, was able to knot it up less than a minute later as Bruce scored off an assist from Mary Ellis.
- Several minutes later, Linehan retook the lead for American with her second goal coming on a man-up free position shot attempt.
- UMBC, though, was once again able to tie the game up with a goal of its own three minutes later on a marker by Alexis Abe.
- The Retrievers took the lead with 33 seconds remaining as Abe converted following a turnover. Ellis picked up another assist on the play.
- American's Reagan Murdoch was able to bring the Eagles even with her first goal of the day just before the end of the frame.
- UMBC grabbed an early 4-3 lead in the second period with a goal two-and-a-half minutes in. Katana Nelson ripped a shot into the upper right quadrant. That lead, though, was quickly erased as American's Maddy Spratt found the net for her first goal of the game with 9:11 remaining.
- Murdoch scored her second goal of the day before Alyssa Apuzzo scored another goal 44 seconds later to stake the hosts to a 6-4 lead.
- UMBC answered right back as they were able to time the game up in the next two minutes with a pair of scores from Bruce and Lizzie Bateman.
- The Eagles' Jasmine Connor found the net with 2:25 remaining to retake the lead before UMBC was able to knot the score again, 7-7, on a tally by Kolby Weedon with less than a minute remaining in the half.
- Spease scored the opening goal of the third quarter to give the Eagles an 8-7 lead with an assist from Spratt 4:45 into the half. From this point, American held the lead the remainder of the day. Spease followed up her first goal of the game with her second less than a minute later to make it 9-7.
- Murdoch extended the lead to 10-7 with 5:18 remaining in the quarter.
- Before the end of the quarter, UMBC was able to inch within striking distance with another tally by Bateman to make it 10-8.
- Murdoch scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game to extend American's led to 12-8.
- Bruce and Nelson scored back-to-back goals to bring UMBC within 13-10 but that was as close as they would get. Bruce tallied her final goal with 1:49 left to make it 14-11.
