BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's and men's swimming and diving squads open the 2024-25 schedule at the UMBC Aquatic Complex to take on American University on Saturday, Oct. 5.
CAPTAINS: Head Coach
Matt Donovan has announced that graduate students
Max Casey-Bolanos (Silverspring, Md.),
Bode Neale (Simpsonville, S.C.), and senior J.J Chapman (Cary, N.C.) have been selected team captains for the 2024-25 men's swimming and diving program.
VERSUS AMERICAN: The men's swimming and diving team won against American last season on Sept, 30, 194-100.
Dani Nicusan and
Max Casey-Bolanos and freshman diver
Andy Vines each won a pair of events.
James Tao won the 200 breaststroke in a photo finish,
Nick Bracall edged an Eagle to take the 500 freestyle and
Samuel Bendek earned gold in the 200 IM. Nicusan cruised to victory in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, while Casey-Bolanos won both backstroke events. Nicusan's mark of 56.59 broke the Bender Arena Pool record. Vines nearly hit the 300-point plateau in both diving events. He earned a score of 294.45 on the 1-meter board and 292.12 on the 3-meter board. In addition, senior
Ethan Riser won the 200 butterfly and
Bode Neale touched first in the 200 freestyle.
2024-25 AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS: The post-season gets underway on February 19-22 when the men and women strive to re-capture the crown at the America East Swimming & Diving Championships. The championships move south to Lexington, Va. as associate league member VMI hosts at the two-year old VMI Aquatic Center.
NEXT MEET: UMBC will hit the road at Navy with William & Mary on Oct. 12 in Annapolis, Md. The meet gets underway at 11 a.m. .
