Women's Lacrosse Travels to Philadelphia to Face Temple on Saturday

LAST TIME OUT: DOMINANT SECOND HALF LEADS TO ROAD WIN AT ROBERT MORRIS

- The Retrievers outscored host Robert Morris, 9-1, in the second half and outlasted the Colonials, 15-7, last Saturday at Joe Walton Stadium.
- Senior attack Claire Bockstie led the way with a 6-goal, 7-point effort. Red-shirt sophomore linemate Kolby Weedon posted her first three-goal game of the season, while senior midfielder Megan Halczuk added two goas, one assist and ten draw controls.
- UMBC junior goalkeeper Isabella Fontana made nine saves, as the Retrievers outshot the Colonials, 44-21.
- Bockstie completed her 28th career hat-trick off the second quarter's opening draw to knot the score at 5-5. The scoring pace slowed as RMU goalkeeper made seven saves in the period. After the hosts regained the lead at the midpoint of the quarter, senior Jenna McDermott cashed in on a free-position shot with 6:10 remaining, which would close the scoring and the game was knotted at 6-6 at halftime.

HALCZUK BECOME'S UMBC's DRAW CONTROL QUEEN
- UMBC women's lacrosse senior midfielder Megan Halczuk became UMBC's all-time career leader with 273 draw controls in last Saturday afternoon's victory at Robert Morris.
- Halczuk surpassed Caitlin Miller, who compiled 268 DC's from 2015 through 2018. Halczuk is currently ninth in the NCAA with 8.5 draw controls per game.
- Halczuk, an America East All-Conference Second Team pick last season, re-set her single season record with 111 draw controls in 2022. In 2021, she became the first player in school history to record 100 draws and earned America East First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie Team honors. Halczuk was also named to the 2021 IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team after finishing eighth in the NCAA and first in the America East in draw controls per game (8.67).
- She currently owns UMBC's single-game record with 14 draw controls against Binghamton (4/24/21). This season, Halczuk recorded a season-high 13 draw controls in the season-opening victory at George Washington.
- She is currently 9th in the NCAA with 8.33 DC's per game.
 
BOCKSTIE MOVING ON UP
- Bockstie has moved into sixth place on UMBC's all-time scoring list with 136 goals. She is two points shy of entering the top ten in scoring, sitting on 171 points (136-35-171).
- Bockstie is 19th among all active DI players with 136 career goals and is 10th in points per game (4.20).
 
RETRIEVERS AMONG THE NATIONAL LEADERS
- Kennedy Evans is tied for third with 3.00 caused turnovers per game
- Halczuk is 9th with 8.33 DC's per game.
- Bockstie is 15th with 4.83 points per game and is tied for fourth with 8.5 shots per game.
- Fontana is 16th with a .508 save percentage and is also 16th with 10.17 saves per game.
 
ABOUT THE OWLS
- Temple has won two straight, including a 14-10 win at Marist on Wednesday afternoon.
- Belle Mastropietro leads the team in points (28), goals (22), and draw controls (47).
- Mackenzie Roth was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll this past week after posting a season-best five points in the 13-10 victory over Saint Joseph's last Saturday. She is second on the team in scoring with 21 points (11g, 10a).
- Amelia Wright has had a breakout sophomore season after returning from injury in 2022. She has contributed 14 points on nine goals and five assists.
- Temple ranks 23rd nationally in scoring defense (9.29 gpg.). Goalie Taylor Grollman  (4-1) has recorded 35 saves and a 9.24 goals against average.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Temple defeated the Retrievers by a score of 14-11 last season in Baltimore.
- Dymin Gerow led the way with five goals and Bockstie added four more.
- The Owls lead the all-time series by a 7-1 margin.
- UMBC's lone win was an 11-9 triumph at home in 2014.
