Niklas Weigelt to the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
Oliver Gassmann, Soph., Pennington, N.J.
- Business Technology Administration (3.86 GPA)
- Earned 2023 America East Conference Swimmer of the Meet honors, capturing both butterfly events and the 50-yard freestyle
- Named the Most Outstanding Swimmer at the 2022 ECAC Winter Championships
- Named America East Men's Swimming Rookie of the Meet at the 2022 Championships
Daniel Nicusan, Junior, Santana de Mures, Romania
- Business Technology Administration major (3.67 GPA)
- Won three individual golds at the 2023 America East Championships (200 IM, 100 and 200 breaststroke)
- Selected to 2021-22 America East All-Academic Team
- Set school record twice in the 100 IM in the 2022-23 campaign
Sierra Tosten, Senior, Hagerstown, Md.
- Biological Sciences (3.80 GPA)
- Earned three golds at 2022 America East Championships, including an individual title in 100 butterfly.
- Swam the butterfly leg on both of UMBC's medley relay winning squads in 2022.
- Earned gold in her final home meet, winning the 100-yard butterfly vs. Mason on 1-21-23.
Niklas Weigelt, Senior, Clayton, Calif.
- Financial Economics major (3.67 GPA)
- Just earned America East's David Alexander Award, amassing the most point in four years of championships competition
- Earned his second consecutive Swimmer of the Meet honor at the 2021-22 America East Championships
- Won all three sprint events (50/100/200); part of free/medley relay-winning teams at '22 championships.
