Women's Lacrosse Looks for Third Straight Win; Hosts La Salle on Tuesday Afternoon

LAST TIME OUT: UMBC WINS OT THRILLER AT TEMPLE

- Senior attacker Claire Bockstie, the current America East Offensive Player of the Week, scored with just over two minutes left in overtime to give UMBC a thrilling, 11-10, victory against the Temple Owls on Saturday afternoon.
 - Bockstie, who moved into a tie for fifth place (Ali Levendusky '08) on UMBC's all-time goals list with 139, took a feed in front of the goal from junior attacker Mary Ellis (2 assists) and beat Owls' keeper Taylor Grollman with a shot to the upper left-corner of the net. The play came just seconds after a yellow card was assessed to the Owls for unnecessary roughness.
 - Bockstie, who also distributed a career-high five assists, recorded seven points to move into ninth place on the Retrievers' all-time scoring list with 178 points.
 - UMBC (5-2) received four goals and an assist from sophomore attacker Kolby Weedon while graduate student attacker Lauren Cremen added three goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Isabella Fontana made eight saves in goal.
 - UMBC's defense came up big as the unit allowed just two goals after halftime. In addition, the Retrievers held Temple's top two-scorers without a single goal.
- Bockstie has been honored by the conference five times during her career, including twice this season. She is second in the league with 3.29 goals per game and third in points per game (5.14).
 
RETRIEVERS AMONG THE NATIONAL LEADERS
- Bockstie is 12th in points per game (5.14), 20th in goals per game (3.29), 32nd in assists per game (1.86), and 17th in shots on goal per game (5.57).
- Kennedy Evans is seventh with 2.67 caused turnovers per game.
- Megan Halczuk ranks eighth with 8.29 draw controls per game
-Isabella Fontana ranks 14th in save percentage (.500) and is 27th in goals against (9.79). She is also 53rd with 2.57 ground balls per game.
 
A GLANCE AT THE EXPLORERS
- The Explorers opened their conference season with a 12-9 defeat against George Washington on Saturday. Claudia Steinmetz recorded the Explorers first hat trick of the season.
-Steinmetz leads the squad with eight goals and owns an .867 shooting rate.
- Julia Dellaratta has started five games in goal and is allowing 14.73 goals per game.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
- UMBC is 2-1 all-time against LaSalle
- The Retrievers defeated the Explorers by a score of 19-4 in their last meeting in Philadelphia in 2016. Carolyn Jamison led all goal scorers with five tallies.
- The Explorers bested UMBC in overtime, 10-9, during the 2015 season at UMBC Stadium.
- The Retrievers came up with a 7-6 win in the first ever meeting in Philadelphia during the 2014 campaign. Shannon Harkey broke a 6-6 tie with 4:39 remaining in the contest.
