Nicusan and Logas Earn America East Awards

Both Retrievers produced outstanding results in meets last week.

BOSTON – The America East Conference named UMBC junior Daniel Nicusan (Santana de Mures, Romania) as the Male Swimmer of the Week and freshman Anders Logas as the Male Diver of the week on Jan. 24, 2023.

In a hard-fought victory in over George Mason on Jan. 21, Nicusan earned three golds for the first time in his career, posting victories in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and in the 200 individual medley. In a rare mid-week meet at Towson, he broke his own school record in the 100 yard individual medley, slicing a significant amount of time (50.36-51.40) from the mark he set at Navy earlier this season.

Logas won the 3-meter diving competition in both meets this week. He posted a season-high score of 290.85 at Towson on Jan. 18, then edged teammate Will Henrickson and won with a mark of 284.48 in a Retriever win over George Mason.

UMBC's divers will compete at Bucknell on Saturday, Jan. 28.
