ANNAPOLIS – Senior Kai Wisner (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior Gabe Laracuente (Gaithersburg, Md./Good Counsel) highlighted UMBC's efforts as the Retrievers took on a strong U.S. Naval Academy squad at Lejeune Hall.
Wisner posted a strong swim of 9:29.00 and secured second place in the 1000 yard freestyle. He also placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle, shaving over eight seconds from the opening meet and coming in at 4:35.89.
Laracuente was edged by .03 seconds in his quest to win the 50 freestyle. He posted a mark of 21.04 and earned silver. He continued his excellent meet by taking bronze in the 100 freestyle (46.52).
Sophomore Stuart Holton (Huntington Beach, Calif.) captured a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.09.
Navy prevailed in the meet, 201-88.
"Today was a great test to see how our swims stacked up against one of the best teams in the region," said senior Collin Mood. "We have been training really hard in the pool and the weight room and it was great to see how far we've come from our first meet. We know that this trend will continue and we're excited for the next few meets."
UMBC competes at William & Mary next Saturday, Oct. 30.
