HARTFORD, Conn. - Behind a strong offensive and defensive showing, the UMBC women's lacrosse team won its third-straight game on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Hartford Hawks, 16-1.

STRAIGHT FACTS

The Retrievers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead within the first ten minutes of the game as Julia Hatmaker (Woodbine, Md./Century), Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond), and Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) all scored.

Lily Kennedy (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) connected with Grayson Corbett (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) before Pekins scored her second of the day to give the Retrievers a 5-0 with 16:47 left to play in the first half. 30 seconds later, Corbett scored again to put UMBC up by six.

Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) scored three of the next four UMBC goals to go along with a score from Rachel Walchuck (Myersville, Md./Middletown) off a pass from Rachel Ridgley (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin).

Van Kirk, off a pass from Kennedy, and Hatmaker scored the final two goals of the first half to give UMBC a 12-0 lead going into halftime.

Out of the break, Hatmaker scored twice more around a goal from Catherine Sims (Elkridge, Md./Howard) to put the Retrievers up 15-0 with 16:14 remaining in the game.

Van Kirk scored the final UMBC goal at the 3:48 mark before Hartford scored its only goal with 3:14 left on the clock.

UMBC moves to 5-9 overall on the season and 3-1 in America East play, while Hartford falls to 1-13 overall and 0-4 in conference games.

BY THE NUMBERS

100 - With her first goal on the day, Van Kirk amassed her 100th career point; the senior now has 103 career points off 75 goals and 28 assists.

24  - The Retrievers were a perfect 24-24 on clears.

14 - UMBC caused 14 Hartford miscues on the day, with defender Jenna Baverman (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) leading the team with five caused turnovers. Baverman also led the team with six ground balls.

9 - Nine different UMBC players recorded a point on the day, with Hatmaker leading the day with four points off four goals.

3 -  All three goalies for the Retrievers saw action during the game. Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) played the first half, making three saves. Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) played 13:46 and made one save, while Sophie Shucosky (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) saw action for 16:14 and made three saves.

1 - Four Retrievers saw their first action in the Black and Gold: Adriana D'Amore, Olivia Schwiegerath, Roberts, and Megan Cleverly.
