BALTIMORE - Julia Hatmaker (Woodbine, Md./Century) scored 1:31 into the overtime period off a pass from Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) to give the UMBC women's lacrosse team a 10-9 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats on Wednesday afternoon.

STRAIGHT FACTS

After Binghamton opened the game with two goals, UMBC took a 3-2 lead off two goals from Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and a score from Catherine Sims (Elkridge, Md/Howard), off a pass from Van Kirk.

The teams exchanged goals until the end of the half, with the Bearcats tying the game up at 3-3 before Hatmaker put the Retrievers up, 4-3, with 8:45

Binghamton tied the game back up at 4-4 with 41 seconds on the clock, sending the game into halftime.

The Bearcats struck first in the second half, taking an early 6-4 lead before Grayson Corbett (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) and Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) tied it back up with 15:16 left to play.

Binghamton went up 7-6 before Corbett scored on a woman-up opportunity with 10:34 to play to knot the game up at 7-all. From there, the Bearcats scored two goals to take a 9-7 lead with 3:31 left to play.

It took 11 seconds for the Retrievers to come back into the game as Sims scored at the 2:41 mark of a pass from Van Kirk, before scoring again off the ensuing draw from Pekins at the 2:30 mark to tie the game up at 9-9.

After Binghamton controlled the final draw of the game, the Bearcats' took two final shots: one going wide and the other being saved by Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown). The Retrievers regained possession, but the game went into overtime.

Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) controlled the only draw of the extra period and from a pass in front of the net from Van Kirk, Hatmaker was able to put the ball into the upper left corner of the net for the golden goal.

FOR THE RECORD

UMBC moves to 4-9 on the season and 2-1 in America East contests, while Binghamton falls to 0-12 overall and 0-3 in conference games.
