Women's Lacrosse Falls to UAlbany, 14-6, in Regular Season Finale

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UMBC women's lacrosse team fell to the UAlbany Great Danes, 11-6, in the America East regular season finale on Saturday.

 

STRAIGHT FACTS

The Great Danes opened the game on a three-goal run before Grayson Corbett (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) scored off a pass from Catherine Sims (Elkridge, Md./Howard).

 

UAlbany used another big run to take a 7-1 lead before Rachel Ridgley (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) cut it short with her second goal of the season with seven seconds left on the clock in the first half to make the score 7-2 at halftime.

 

The Great Danes opened the second half with a goal before Corbett knocked in her second of the day, this time off an assist from Ridgley, and Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) helped to cut the UAlbany lead to 8-4.

 

UAlbany used a six-goal run to extend its lead to 14-4 before Corbett and Pekins each scored a final goal for the 14-6 final.

 

FOR THE RECORD

The Great Danes end the season at 10-6 overall and 6-1 in America East play. The Retrievers will finish the season at 6-11 and 4-3 in conference contests.

 

BY THE NUMBERS

13- UMBC won the draw control battle against UAlbany, 13-9. Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) led the team with five on the day, bumping her to sole possession of seventh place in draw controls in a season (59).

 

11 - The Retrievers finished the first half a perfect 11-11 on clearing attempts; they finished the game 16-20.

 

9 - Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) finished the day with nine saves and six ground balls.

The Retrievers will head to their first #AEWLAX Tournament since the 2017 season as the #4 seed. The Retrievers will take on the #1 Stony Brook Seawolves in an 11 a.m. contest on Thursday, May 2.
