Women's Lacrosse Posts 11-5 Victory over UMass Lowell on Senior Day

BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse finished out the 2019 home season on a high note, taking down the UMass Lowell River Hawks, 11-5, on Senior Day on Saturday. With the win, the Retrievers clinch a spot in the 2019 America East women's lacrosse tournament.

 

STRAIGHT FACTS

The Retrievers opened the game on a 4-0 run, as Lily Kennedy (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge), Catherine Sims (Elkridge, Md./Howard), Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), and Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) all scored within the first ten minutes of the first half.

 

The period was silent until the River Hawks scored at the 3:27 mark to cut into UMBC's lead, 4-1, but Grayson Corbett (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) counteracted a minute later to put Retrievers up, 5-1 before halftime.

 

Out of the break, Corbett extended UMBC's lead before UMass Lowell scored on a free position shot to cut the lead to 6-2.

 

Kennedy and Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) scored around a River Hawk's goal before UMass Lowell scored two straight to cut UMBC's lead to 8-5.

 

The Retrievers added insurance goals at the end of the game, finishing the game on a three-goal run from Corbett, Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), and Sims.

 

FOR THE RECORD

UMBC moves to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in America East play. UMass Lowell falls to 4-12 on the year and 1-5 in conference contests.

 

BY THE NUMBERS

54 - With her seven draw controls today, Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) has 54 for the season, which is tied for seventh in a single season (Caitlin Miller, 2017).

 

10 - Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) finished the day with 10 saves, her tenth game this season with 10+ stops.

 

4 - Corbett finished the day with a game-high four points off three goals and one assist.

 

UP NEXT

The Retrievers will head on the road for the final game of the regular season as they travel to Albany to take on the Great Danes on Saturday, April 27. The opening draw is slated for 12 p.m.
