Track and Field Travels to Lewisburg, Pa. for Bucknell Team Challenge

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC track and field team will hit the road on Saturday when they travel to Pennsylvania to participate in the Bucknell Team Challenge.  This will be the second time this year the Retrievers will head to Bucknell, as they traveled there for the first event of the indoor season.

Last Time Out (Mason Spring Invitational):

The Retrievers had a strong showing last weekend in Fairfax, Va.  Sophomore Brian Nelson recorded a first-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 21.43, and took third in the 100m dash after finishing in 10.79.  Senior John Oputa took seventh in the 200m with a time of 21.82.

In the 400m hurdles, junior Kyle Kulp and senior Samuel Enomanna took seventh and ninth with times of 56.88 and 57.04, respectively.  Sophomore Miles Smith came in tenth in the 800m with a time of 1:54.49.  Senior James Oakley ran a personal best time in the 400m, crossing the line in 48.99.

In the long distance events, junior Nathan Nadal took third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:26.06, while sophomore Matt Bennett took eighth in the 5,000m with a time of 15:25.70.  In the 1,500m, Taylor Baranoski ran the fifth fastest time in UMBC history with a time of 3:52.90.

In the field, senior Musangu Bukasa took third in the high jump and seventh in the triple jump, clearing a height of 1.86m in the high jump, and recording a distance of 13.07m in the triple jump.  Freshman Jameer Robinson took seventh in the javelin throw and senior Russell Bowman took ninth.  Robinson threw 49.27m and Bowman threw 43.97m.  Bowman also threw 44.02 in the discus throw to take eighth place.  Freshman Andrew Haberman took eighth in the hammer throw, throwing 48.22m.

In the 4x400m relay, Funmi Daramola, Tori Johnson, Collese Daley, and Amani Wallace took second with a time of 3:54.49.  Sophomore Kaya Knake took third in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:10.37.

In the 400m hurdles, Johnson took eighth finishing in 1:03.95.  In the 200m, Wallace took ninth with a time of 24.40, which placed her second all-time in UMBC, while Erin Patrice ran the seventh fastest time in the same event with a time of 24.63.  Patrice also ran the seventh fastest time in UMBC's history with a time of 12.16 in the 100m.

Sophomore Bridgett Redding, junior Alexis Bartelloni, and freshman Edith Torres ran personal bests in the 1,500m, with Redding finishing in 4:52.46, Bartelloni in 4:54.82, and Torres in 5:06.53.

Senior Zoya Trendafilova took seventh in the high jump after clearing a 1.56m height.

Also in action this weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton are Miles Smith, Taylor Baranoski, and Kaya Knake.

The Retrievers will travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays, beginning on Thursday, April 26th.
