Fairfax, Va. – Sophomore Brian Nelson led the way for the UMBC track and field squad on Saturday, placing first in the 200m dash, and third in the 100m dash.  Nelson ran 21.43 in the 200m and 10.79 in the 100m.  The sophomore ran the sixth fastest time in the 200m.

Also in the 200m, senior John Oputa ran a time of 21.82 to record a seventh-place finish.  In the 400m hurdles, junior Kyle Kulp and senior Samuel Enomanna earned top ten finishes, with Kulp coming in seventh with a time of 56.88, and Enomanna earned ninth with a time of 57.04.  Sophomore Miles Smith took tenth in the 800m with a time of 1:54.49.

In the 400m, senior James Oakley ran a personal best with a time of 48.99, while Oputa ran an outdoor best time of 49.21.

In long distance, junior Nathan Nadal took home the bronze with a time of 9:26.06 in the 3,000m steeplechase.  Sophomore Matt Bennett took eighth in the 5,000m with a time of 15.25.70.  Taylor Baranoski ran the fifth fastest time in UMBC history with a time of 3:52.90 in the 1,500m.

In the field, senior Musangu Bukasa took third in the high jump with a height cleared of 1.86m.  Bukasa also took seventh in the triple jump, with a distance of 13.07m.  In the javelin throw, freshman Jameer Robinson took seventh and senior Russell Bowman took ninth.  Robinson threw a distance of 49.27m, and Bowman threw 43.97m.  Bowman also earned an eighth-place finish in the discus throw, throwing 44.02m.  Freshman Andrew Haberman also earned an eighth-place, for his 48.22m throw in the hammer throw.

On the women's side, the team of Funmi Daramola, Tori Johnson, Collese Daley, and Amani Wallace led the way and took second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:54.49.  Sophomore Kaya Knake took third in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:10.37.

In the 400m hurdles, Johnson finished in eighth, crossing the line in 1:03.95.  Wallace took ninth in the 200m with a time of 24.40, which was good for second all-time at UMBC.  Erin Patrice ran the seventh fastest time in the same event with a time of 24.63.  Also in the 100m dash, Patrice ran the seventh fastest time in UMBC history, crossing the line in 12.16.

In the 1,500m, sophomore Bridgett Redding, junior Alexis Bartelloni, and freshman Edith Torres ran personal bests.  Redding finished in 4:52.46, Bartelloni in 4:54.82, and Torres in 5:06.53. 

Senior Zoya Trendafilova took seventh in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.56m.

The Retrievers will travel back to Princeton next weekend to take part in the Larry Ellis Invitational, beginning on Friday.
