Nwanaga Sets School Record, Places Third in Javelin Throw as Track and Field Completes Day Two of Pepsi Florida Relays

Gainesville, Fla. – Freshman Kelechi Nwanaga shattered the school record in the javelin throw in her first career attempt, throwing a distance of 49.57m.  The freshman earned third place in the event after her final attempt went a distance of 51.64m.

Also for the women, sophomore Kaya Knake recorded the second fastest time in school history in the 800m run, with a time of 2:09.83.  This time is also a personal best for Kaya.  Classmate Tori Johnson completed the 400m hurdles in 1:03.41.

For the men, junior Nathan Nadal took eleventh in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:17.99.  His time was good enough for sixth in school history, and qualified him for IC4As.  Senior Rhys Burgett took 19th in the event with a time of 9:26.60.  Junior Kyle Kulp completed the 110m hurdles in 57.02.

Freshman Taylor Baranoski ran the sixth fastest 1,500m in UMBC's history with a time of 3:54.27.

The Retrievers complete their weekend in Gainesville tomorrow afternoon, beginning at noon.
