Women's Lacrosse Faces Longwood in Saturday Battle

FARMVILLE, Va. - The UMBC women's lacrosse team looks to bounce back as they travel to Longwood to face the Lancers on Saturday, March 17. The opening draw from Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS (6-2)

The Retrievers fell for just the second time this season in a 13-9 loss to crosstown rivals Johns Hopkins on Wednesday night. The game was a close battle, with the game being tied three times during the first half.

Junior Sara Moeller led the team with four points (3g,1a), followed by senior Carolyn Jamison (2g,1a) and junior Lauren McDonald (2g). Jamison led the team with four ground balls, while classmate Caitlin Miller controlled six of UMBC's draws. Junior Kia Reinhardt had two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

In goal, senior Kelsey Major tied a season high with 13 saves in all 60 minutes played. On the season, Major has 50 total saves and a .435 saves percentage.

Moeller leads the Retrievers with 46 points off 28 goals and 18 assists, followed by Jamison (20g, 8a) and McDonald (20g, 3a). Jamison also leads the team in ground balls (20) and caused turnovers (13), along with junior Kayla Renehan. Miller leads the team with 35 draws.

Nationally, Moeller ranks first in points per game (7.00), sixth in total assists and assists per game (2.57), and ninth in goals per game (4.00). As a team, the Retrievers are 15th in caused turnovers per game (11.00) and 34th in points per game (19.00).

SCOUTING THE LANCERS (3-4)

Longwood enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak, most recently defeating Howard, 19-5, on March 10. The Lancers also picked up a 11-10 comeback win against Mount St. Mary's on March 3.

Against the Bison, Riley Dolan dished out a career-best six assists to go along with a hat trick, just one of three on day for the Lancers. Dolan's six assists ties a program mark for a single game, set last season by Lexi Davis.  Molly Barkman led the team with four goals, which also tied a career-best.

In the victory against the Mountaineers, the Lancers dug themselves out of a 4-1 hole to trail just 6-5 at the half. After the intermission, Longwood used a five-goal spurt to take a 10-6 lead and held off the Mount's attempt for a comeback late in the game to hold on for the win.

In the Mount St. Mary's game, goalkeeper Imani West made 13 saves, which was her seventh-straight game with double digit saves. West is tied for eighth in the NCAA in total saves with 78.

Dolan leads the team in points with 30 off 14 points and 16 assists. Madison Stair leads the Lancers with 16 goals on the season. Barkman has 27 draws on the year, while West leads the team with 29 ground balls.
