Track and Field Completes Fastrack National Invitational

Staten Island, N.Y. – UMBC track and field finished their third trip to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island on Friday when they competed in the Fastrack National Invitational.

The men were paced by seniors John Oputa and James Oakley III in the short distance events.  Oputa earned the gold medal in the 200m dash, crossing the line first in 22.16, while Oakley earned the bronze medal in the 400m dash, finishing in 49.83.  The two seniors, along with classmate Noel Njem and junior Jamal Cody, ran the 4x400 relay in 3:21.16 to finish in seventh.

In the mile run, junior Matt Kane ran his personal best time of 4:17.84.

The women also finished in seventh in the 4x400 relay, with the team of juniors Amani Wallace, Aliya Sharp, and Yinka Alabi, and freshman Collese Daley, finishing the event in 3:58.433. 

Senior Funmi Daramola placed tenth in the 400m dash, finishing in 58.58.

The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, February 17, as they travel back to State College to compete in the Penn State Tune Up.
