Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Penn State Tune Up

State College, Pa. UMBC track and field brought home multiple top five finishes in the Penn State Tune Up meet, prior to the America East Indoor Championships next weekend.

The men's strong day was led in the 1,000m event, where they swept the podium.  Senior Ifa Eado took the gold with a time of 2:28.57, and sophomores Miles Smith and Gavin Prather took second and third respectively with times of 2:30.01 and 2:34.94.

Junior Jamal Cody took the silver in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.64, while freshman Erik Jenks took second as well in the 400m with a time of 52.50.  Senior Samuel Enomanna took fourth in the same event with a time of 53.14.

Freshman Nathan Trowell-Lopez also earned the silver with a time of 2:01.11 in the 800m.  Junior Nathan Nadal earned the bronze in 3,000m, crossing the line in 8:32.78.  In the 4x400 relay, the team of Jenks, Eado, Smith, and Rhys Burgett earned second place with a time of 3:26.28.

Burgett also ran his personal best time in the mile run with a time of 4:19.

In the field, the men were led in the weight throw.  Sophomore Michael Parkent, senior Russell Bowman and freshman Andrew Haberman earned top five finishes in weight throw.  Parkent tossed a distance of 15.46 for the silver, Bowman a distance of 14.76 for the bronze, and Haberman 14.37 to earn fourth. 

Also, Bowman earned the bronze with 15.07m, and Haberman took fourth with a distance of 13.14m in the shot put.

On the women's side, sophomores Kaya Knake and Briana Roberts took first and second in the 1,000m.  Knake ran a time of 3:00.41 and Roberts a time of 3:04.31.  In the 60m dash, juniors Kara Patrice and Erin Patrice took the silver and bronze, with times of 7.84 and 7.972 respectivley.  Also in the 60m dash, freshman Collese Daley crossed the line fourth in 7.979.

Sophomore Tori Johnson took the bronze in the 400m with a time of 58.26, and senior Funmi Daramola took fourth with a time of 59.04.   Junoir Amani Wallace earned the bronze in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 25.35, while Erin Patrice earned another top-five finish, with a time of 25.51.

In the 4x400m relay, the team of Knake, Roberts, Ariella Garcia, and Cecilia Davies took second place with a time 3:55.67. 

In the field, senior Ricca Graham tossed a distance of 14.07m to earn fourth in the weight throw, while freshman Kelechi Nwanaga recorded a distance of 11.20m in the shot put to take fifth.

The Retrievers return to action next weekend in Boston for the America East Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
