UMBC Track and Field Opens Season with Strong Showing at Bucknell Tri-Meet

RESULTS

Lewisburg, Pa.— UMBC track and field saw several athletes finish in the top three of various events as the Retrievers opened the 2018 indoor season at the Bucknell Tri-Meet on Saturday.

The men saw Brian Nelson earn a pair of first place finishes on Saturday. Nelson won both the 60m and 300m dashes with times of 6.90 and 34.48. Noel Njem also had a pair of top three finishes, taking second in the 60m dash in a time of 7.11 and third in the 300m dash in a time of 36.58. James Oakley III and Drew Daniels were the other top finishers on the track, with Oakley finishing second in the 300m dash in 34.88 and Daniels taking first in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.54.

In the field, Russell Bowman and Michael Parkent led the way in the shot put and the weight throw. Bowman took third in the shot put with a toss of 13.91m (45'7.75") while Parkent finished fourth with a throw of 14.86m (48'9").

The women had a slew of runners earn top three finishes, including a sweep in the 300m dash. Amani Wallace took gold with a time of 40.62, followed by Yinka Alabi (41.48) and Collese Daly (41.81). Erin Patrice and Kara Patrice finished one-two in the 60m dash with times of 7.91 and 7.94 respectively. Tori Johnson and Ariella Garcia went two-three in the 600m run with times of 1:37.76 and 1:37.97.

Breanna Flores had a pair of top finishes in the shot put and weight throw. She had a toss of 11.02m (36'2") to take sixth in the shot put and a throw of 14.25m (46'9") to take fourth in the weight throw. Elisabeth Kan finished fifth in the long jump (4.52m, 14'10") to round out the field.

UMBC returns to the track next Saturday, Jan. 13 when they head to the Great Dane Classic. The meet will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
