America East Release

Boston, Mass.—UMBC swimming and diving seniors Amanda Day (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and Emily Escobedo (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) were named to the America East All-Academic team, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Day is coming off a big weekend at the America East Championships where she earned a pair of gold medals in the 200 and 400 medley relays, while taking silver in the 100 fly. At the ECAC Championships, Day took third in the 100 fly.

The Texas native holds a 3.95 grade point average, studying biology. This is her second All-Academic Team selection, as she was selected to the team back in 2015.

Escobedo finished her final America East Championship meet with six gold medals, breaking five school records and earning her fourth Swimmer of the Year award. She qualified for the NCAA Championships next week in the 100 and 200 breast and 200 IM, holding the third best time in the 200 breast in the country this year.

The New York native has a 3.51 GPA, studying psychology. This is her third selection to the All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for All-Academic, student-athletes must have sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average and a contributor on their team. The squad is voted on by a committee made up of America East student-athlete support and athletic communications administrators as well as faculty athletic representatives.
