BALTIMORE – A strong offensive performance from the UMBC women's lacrosse team, including a 13-0 run, helped the Retrievers to a 17-5 victory over Longwood on Thursday afternoon. The Retrievers move to 5-3 on the season, while the Lancers fall to 4-4.

Seniors Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Jennie Milligan (Crofton, Md./South River), and junior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) all scored three goals in the game, while Jamison led the team with two assists. Sophomores Sara Moeller (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each notched two goals in the win.

In goal, sophomore Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) picked up her first win of the season after making one of UMBC's two saves and allowing no goals. Longwood's Imani West made 13 saves on 29 shots faced in 57 minutes of play.

Jamison scored the first goal of the game just 30 seconds into the contest before Nolan netted her first of the game to give UMBC a 2-0 lead. Longwood scored two goals within a minute of each other to tie things up at two-all before Nolan scored off a feed from Milligan for a 3-2 lead.

Longwood used a free position shot to once again tie the game up, but UMBC would start a 13-0 run after Milligan netted her second of the day off an assist from Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora). The Retrievers would go into the intermission with a 9-3 lead.

Jamison started the second half the same way as the first, as she scored quickly into the period to continue UMBC's offensive dominance. The unanswered run was capped off by an unassisted goal from Milligan to give UMBC a 16-3 advantage.

The Lancers scored back-to-back goals in the final 10:30 of the game, but UMBC capped off the game with a goal from sophomore Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) off a helper from junior Kalyn Crocetti (Joppa, Md./Maryvale Preparatory).

UP NEXT: UMBC will remain home for a Saturday morning contest against Duquesne on March 18. The opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
