Nolan Nets Career-High Six Goals; Women's Lacrosse Routs GW, 17-8, for Third Straight Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored a career high six goals to help lead the UMBC women's lacrosse team to a 17-8 victory over George Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Retrievers improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Colonials fall to 0-4.

Nolan (6 goals, 1 assist) and junior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scored three times and dished out a team-high four assists to lead the team with seven points. Sophomores Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) also netted three goals each. Junior Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) led with six draw controls, while sophomore Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) caused four turnovers. 

The first half began with each team trading goals as McDonald notched the first three goals for the Retrievers to counteract the Colonials' Jocelyn Donohue and Cassidy Shollenberger.

With a 3-3 draw, Van Kirk kick started a four-goal run to give UMBC a 7-3 advantage before Donohue scored again for GW. The Retrievers would take an 8-4 lead into the intermission after Jamison scored with 18 seconds left on the clock.

In the second half, UMBC scored the first three goals and held George Washington scoreless for 10:51 before Donohue found the net for GW to make the score 11-5.  The Retrievers used another four-goal run to extend their lead to 15-5 before closing out the game with two more scores.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville) made eight saves in all 60 minutes of playing time.

Overall, UMBC outshot George Washington, 38-18, with a 28-16 advantage on goal. The Retrievers also won the draws battle, 18-9, and converted 5-8 of their free position shots.

UP NEXT: UMBC will return home to UMBC Stadium on Wednesday, March 1 when they host Mount St. Mary's. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
