Women's Lacrosse Falls to Albany 16-6, Drops to 1-2 in AE

Box Score

BALTIMORE – For the first time this season the women's lacrosse team lost back-to-back games after falling to the visiting University at Albany, 16-6, at UMBC Stadium. The Retrievers struggled to control draws and capitalize on their free position attempts, while Albany put on their second highest scoring performance of the season.

With the loss UMBC drops to 7-4 overall, and 1-2 in the America East conference. Albany's record improves to 7-3 overall, and 3-0 in-conference with the win.

The Great Danes started with a five-goal run over the first ten minutes of play that put the Retrievers in a hole that would only deepen as the game went on.

After being held scoreless in the Retrievers' 17-5 loss to Stony Brook, sophomore attacker Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led the team with four goals. Jamison's first two goals put an end to the Great Danes' run midway through the first half, but the visitors quickly responded with a pair of their own.

Sophomore midfielder Marissa Davey (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) scored twice in the loss, bringing her season total to 26 goals. Davey has now scored multiple goals in eight games this season, and is six goals above her total from last year.

Headed into the half, UMBC trailed Albany, 10-4. Albany scored first, but Jamison and Davey each scored in the eight-minute of the half to cut their lead to a manageable five goals. The visitors ended the game how they started it, though, and scored another five unanswered goals over the final 10:44.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville) made six saves in the contest, and led the team in caused turnovers (3) and groundballs (5).

Up next, the Retrievers travel to Johns Hopkins University this Wednesday, April 13, for their final non-conference game of the season. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Homewood Field.
