Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The UMBC women's lacrosse team outlasted the Duquesne Dukes thanks to an 8-2 halftime lead, and a few key saves from junior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville). The 11-6 victory moves the Retrievers up to a 6-3 record, while the Dukes fall to 2-5.
A familiar cast created the bulk of the offense for UMBC, with junior attacker Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) leading the way with four goals and three assists. Her seven points tie her season high, set against American University (4 goals, 3 assists).
Sophomore attacker Carolyn Jamison helped build the Retrievers first half lead by netting herself a hat trick in the first 15:09 of the game. The performance marks the eight time this season Jamison has scored multiple goals in a game, and keeps her season long multi-point streak alive.
Midfielders Marissa Davey (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) each scored twice for UMBC.
Sophomore midfielder Catlin Miller helped the Retrievers edge the Dukes in the midfield by controlling three draws and picking up four ground balls. As a team UMBC kept a slim advantage on the draw by pulling down 10 to the Dukes' eight. The Retrievers won the all important ground ball battle, 15-11, including a 9-2 advantage in the first half.
The Retrievers kick off America East conference play with a trip to UMass Lowell on Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. The following week features two conference matchups, one on the road and one at UMBC Stadium. On Wednesday, April 6, the Retrievers face the number 12 team in the nation in Stony Brook University. The following Saturday, April 9, the University at Albany comes to town for the Retrievers first home game in three weeks.
