Atlanta, Ga.—UMBC swimming and diving junior Emily Escobedo (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) scored for the second time in her career at the NCAA Championships on Friday, this time finishing the B finals of the 100 breast in 15th place to earn Honorable Mention All-American status.

"Emily is our first swimmer to ever go under one minute in the 100 breaststroke," head coach Chad Cradock said. "As soon as she hit the water today she was focused and driven. Her hard work over the last few years really came out in her race."

The New York native earned a spot in the finals after finishing tenth in the prelims with a time of 59.71. She then turned in a time of 1:00.08 to take 15th in the B finals.

Lilly King of Indiana took gold in the event, touching in with a time of 56.85, setting a new NCAA, meet, American, and pool record.

Escobedo will complete the 2016 NCAA Championships in the 200 breast tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. Emily is seeded second in the event heading into the prelims.
