Escobedo Finishes in 23rd in the 200 IM on Day One of the NCAA Championships

Atlanta, Ga.—UMBC swimming and diving junior Emily Escobedo (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) completed her first day at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, by placing 23rd in the prelims of the 200 IM.

"The 200 IM was a great start for Emily, we are excited for the rest of the meet," head coach Chad Cradock said of his junior. 

The New York native finished the race with a time of 1:57.50, just missing the finals by under a second. Madisyn Cox of Texas won the prelims with a time of 1:54.11, and will be the top seed heading into the finals tonight.

Escobedo will swim tomorrow in the 100 breaststroke, where she is currently seeded 20th. Fans can catch live results and live video by going to ramblinwreck.com.
