Women's Lacrosse Scores 14 in the First Half, Beats La Salle 19-4

Box Score

BALTIMORE –The Retrievers beat the La Salle Explorers, 19-4, earlier today in Philadelphia. Sophomore attacker Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led all goal scorers with five tallies, with junior midfielder Marissa Davey (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) not far behind with four goals. UMBC improves to 5-2, while La Salle falls to 0-4.

Junior midfielder Jennie Milligan (Crofton, Md./South River) and junior attacker Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) each netted hat tricks in the win. For Nolan, it was the fourth time this season she has scored three or more goals. Milligan has completed the feat three times this year. Both are among the top five Retrievers in goals and points.

The Retrievers played a disciplined game that saw them give up only two free-position attempts, neither of which resulted in goals. In comparison, UMBC was a perfect four-for-four from the fan, with goals from Jamison, freshman Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur), Milligan and sophomore attacker Kalyn Crocetti (Joppa, Md./Maryvale Preparatory).

Crocetti's goal was her first of the season.

Jamison extended her multi-goal game streak to seven with today's effort, and has completed a hat trick in six of UMBC's seven games this season.

Junior midfielder Caroline Haggerty (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) and her sophomore line-mate Laura Osborne (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) each chipped in a goal.

UMBC's defense was not called on much in the contest but kept the Explorers to just 16 total shots. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville) made four saves throughout 53:15 in net before yielding the goalkeeping duties to sophomore Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), who made three saves while allowing just one goal. Peacock, as the goalie of record, earned the win, bringing her record to 5-2.

The Retrievers have just two more non-conference games before starting America East play with a trip to University of Massachusetts Lowell in early April. UMBC's final non-conference matchup of the 2016 season falls in the midst of conference play, with a trip to legendary Homewood Field to face local rival Johns Hopkins University.

In the meantime, the Retrievers will be back at UMBC Stadium next Saturday, March 19, to host Winthrop University. Game time is set for noon.
