Women's Lacrosse Improves to 2-1 on Big Win Over American

Box Score

BALTIMORE – Four Retrievers netted hat tricks and three more got on the scoreboard in UMBC's 18-7 win over visiting American University. Junior attacker Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led the way with four goals and three assists, and junior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville) made a season-high 11 saves. UMBC improves to 2-1, while American falls to 1-3.

Sophomores Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Marissa Davey (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and junior midfielder Jennie Milligan each netted a hat trick in the victory.

Nolan and Jamison have been the offensive producers this season. Each has 13 points through the first three games of the season, and Jamison leads the team with 10 goals.

Davey trails the two attackers by just a single point, and Milligan also has a double-digit point total (10).

American started strong with two goals in the first five minutes of play, but freshman midfielder Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) scored her first career goal in that span to keep the Eagles' lead to one.

Just thirty seconds after American regained the lead, junior midfielder Jennie Milligan (Crofton, Md./South River) brought the game back to even with her first of three goals.

Jamison then scored back-to-back goals six minutes apart, followed by goals by Milligan and Davey to cap off a five-goal run by the Retrievers.

UMBC headed into the half with a 10-4 advantage.

American again got the first goal of the half, but could not slow down the Retriever offense. The Eagles put two more goals in before the end but were trailing by as many as 12 before the final whistle.

Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Miller (Fredrick, Md./Tuscarora) chipped in two goals, and junior attacker Caroline Haggerty (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) scored her first of the season.

UMBC is back in action this Saturday, Feb. 27, when they host George Washington University. First draw is scheduled for noon. Follow the live stats at www.umbcretrievers.com
