Retrievers Swim Past Howard on Senior Day

Baltimore, Md.-- The Retrievers won every race, en route to victories against Howard on Senior/Alumni Day. The UMBC women won 100-83, while the men won 100-79.

The women started off the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The squad of Kylie Danin, Emily Escobedo, Amanda Day and Laura Massicotte finished in a time of 1:47.20.

Natalie Davis got the individual races started with a victory in the 1,000 free. Davis touched in at 10:49.79. Hania Moro followed her up with a win in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:52.64. Catherine Frediani (50 free, 24.65) and Kayla Lilly (2:08.78) were also winners in the first session for UMBC.

Other Retriever winners include Frediani (200 fly, 2:07.87), Courtney Hadden (100 free, 54.05), Escobedo (200 back, 2:04.21/200 breast, 2:13.51), and Alissa Caulfield (500 free, 5:09.78).

The final relay of the day saw Frediani, Kristie Langford, Lauren Day and Massicotte win in 200 free relay. The quartet finished in a time of 1:38.26.

Senior Coco Darelius won both diving events with scores of 267.90 (1 meter) and 292.50 (3 meter). 

The Retriever men picked up a relay win in the 200 medley relay, with Alexander Gilese, Leo Mercer, Gregor Spoerlein, and Darnell Yarberough clocking in at 1:34.27.

Individually, Connor Ganley opened things up with a win in the 1,000 free, touching in at 9:59.71. Gregor Spoerlein (200 free, 1:42.36), Andrew Sanchez (50 free, 21.57) and Ahmed Wahby (200 IM, 1:55.59) all picked up wins before the first break.

Other Retrievers winners include John Stupey (200 fly, 1:58.44), Wahby (100 free, 47.68), Gliese (200 back, 1:49.83),  and Nikola Trajkovic (500 free, 4:42.62/200 breast, 2:09.64).

The Retrievers finshed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. Spoerlein, Bryan Mattingly, Yarberough and Sanchez finished in a time of 1:26:94.

On the boards, Elijah Wright swept both diving disciplines with scores of 280.12 on the 1 meter and 259.35 on the 3 meter.

The Retrievers head back to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 23 in the final dual meet before championships at East Carolina. The meet with the Pirates begins at 1 p.m.
