Records Fall on Final Day of Penn Relays

Final Results

Philadelphia, Pa.—The UMBC track and field team closed out the Penn Relays is record breaking fashion on Saturday. There were a couple school records broken, and several strong performances throughout the day.

Two school records fell on the final day of the Penn Relays, one on the track and one in the field. On the track, the quartet of Mary Katherine Kulp, Angelina Oputa, Essence Fredericks, and Sarah Daly took sixth place in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:54.56. The previous best was 9:02.31 set back in 2003.

Vincent Rentzsch finished fourth in the javelin championship, throw a school record 71.21m (233-7). Vincent broke his previous school record of 70.88m, set back in 2013.

The women's 4x200m relay team (Mercedes Tillman, Paulette Fogle, Funmi Daramola, and Briana Young) took seventh with a time of 1:38.63. The men's 4x200m relay (Randolph Patrice, Darrius Oxley, John Oputa, and Daryian Miles) placed fourth in the event, crossing the tape in 1:26.57.

Two other relay teams placed on Saturday. The men's 4x800m team of Ty Thronson, Charles Bolinger, Hassan Omar, and Matt Rever took 13th with a time of 7:43.18. Finally, the team of Tillman, Fogle, Young and Kalane Abbey took third in the 4x400m race with a time of 3:42.98.

In the field, Thor Serafenas took home tenth place in the hammer throw. Thor had his best throw of 58.36m.

The Retrievers will head back to the track at the 2015 America East Outdoor Championships on May 2-3. This year's championships will be hosted by Albany, as both teams look to capture the crown.
