Proctor Wraps Up Competition for UMBC at 2014 NCAA East Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE – UMBC senior Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) wrapped up competition for the Retriever track and field team by competing in the national quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles on the final day of the 2014 NCAA East Preliminaries, Saturday at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Proctor competed in the third and final heat of the competition and placed 22nd overall with a time of 14.09.  Florida's Eddie Lovett paced the field with a winning time of 13.45, while Purdue's Brandon Winters earned the 12th and final spot out of the East region at the NCAA Championships with a time of 13.796.

Proctor completes his career with the Retrievers as a three-time America East gold medalist in the outdoor hurdle event.  He broke the school record last year in 2013 with a time of 14.12.  He then reset the mark twice this season, originally snapping his time at the Florida Relays (14.05) on April 4, and then eight days later at the Mason Spring Invitational when he lowered it to 13.88.

On Friday, Proctor nearly surpassed his school mark in the prelims with a time of 13.95.

Seniors Dennison Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) and Andrew Smith (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley), as well as sophomore Vincent Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany/Elite Sportschule Potsdam), also represented UMBC at the 2014 regional meet.  Long and Smith both advanced out of the preliminary round, earning a spot in the quarterfinals for the 100m dash and 800m run, respectively.
