Junior Geaton Caltabiano (Lothian, Md./Mount St. Joseph) scored
twice and added an assist as UMBC defeated James Madison, 3-2, in a
preseason match played at Retriever Soccer Park. The contest
consisted of three 30-minute periods.
Caltabiano assisted on the game's first goal, crossing a ball
that senior Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) put
away from close range in the 32nd minute. The Loyola
(Md.) transfer would then convert on a pair of free kicks in a span
of 3:34 at the game's midpoint, extending UMBC's advantage to
3-0.
The Dukes countered in the 52nd minute and scored on
a penalty kick with 4:32 remaining to finalize the scoring.
UMBC, the defending America East Conference champions, hosts
American in a scrimmage on Fri, Aug. 23 and opens the regular
season by welcoming Seattle University to Retriever Soccer Park on
Fri., Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
