PHILADELPHIA – UMBC
senior Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) earned a
top-ten finish as she recorded a season-best in the shot put,
Thursday afternoon on day one of the Penn Relays at Franklin
Field.
Deller's toss of 14.18m (46'6.25") surpassed her previous
season-best of 13.76m (45'1.75") which she set last weekend, and
slotted her ninth in the competition at Penn. It also
gives the senior captain the best toss in the America East so far
this season.
In the first event of the day, the 400m hurdles,
sophomore Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop
McNamara) finished in 50th with a time of 1:03.40. The
school-record holder in the event, Fogle has already qualified for
the ECAC meet at Princeton and owns the third-fastest time
(1:01.59) in the conference this year.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Fogle, junior Kirsten
Jones (Brentwood, Tenn./M.L.K. Magnet), freshman D'Nique
Phillip (Elkton, Md.), and sophomore Kalane' Abbey (Laurel,
Md./Laurel) finished out UMBC's day by placing 31st with a time of
3:48.60. The Retrievers bested America East-rival
Binghamton (3:51.52), but were just behind Albany (3:46.09).

at 9:00 a.m. with the College Men's 400m Hurdles Championship.
